Bring Back the Pepper Mills Please

Where I work last night management decided to hide some salt and peppers that we normally put on the table upon the guest's arrival. Whether they have ordered their food or not nearly all the time at one point in the meal one or the other will be used to sprinkle over their food.

Well now we are told they have to order their appetizer first before we can put them on. So management decided we didn't need all the salt and peppers that were available previously to us for all the tables. So everyone was hunting for salt and peppers to put on the table when the rush came and there wasn't enough to go around.

Being questioned as to the appropriate time to deliver the salt and pepper I piped up to say that out of my 3 tables that are eating right now only one has a salt and pepper. But no I had to answer the question right first then mention again that I didn't have salt and pepper for all my tables who were eating.

Why on heaven's earth did management choose to make service difficult especially when upon the guest's request for salt and pepper did I had to go to a neighbouring table to see if they were done with theirs' so I could pass it on. Is this confusing already? Cause I am baffled.

If this is the way to go then we may as well go back to the pepper mills we had before the salt and pepper shakers came into being 9 months ago. I mean really how stupid is it really to be running around looking for the S and P when you should be doing other really important things like providing real service to the guest.

Now I still made some good money last night and maybe tonight there will be enough S and P for every table but if we have to tip management out the least they can do is make sure we have the equipment necessary to ensure guest satisfaction.

I mean really.....
