Congratulations to everyone who took part and whether you decided to post your answers or not it is all good fun. Don't be upset if you only get one right I mean.

Here are the much awaited for answers.

1. The word smorgasbord comes from the country of Sweden.

2. The cooking term for the fish dish I was talking about served with the tomato sauce is called Orly.

3. Kholodetz is a Russian dish of jellied meats.

4. That tannic red wine grape that has achieved some notoriety in Uruguay is called Tannat.

5. Grist is the name given to that coarse ground malted barley used with hot water to extract the sugars required for fermentation.

The Answers to Today's Quiz

Pretty simple quiz wasn't it or so I thought except for the tricky question number 2. The answers are the following.

1. A couple of pearl onions on a cocktail pic is the garnish for a Gibson Cocktail which is a martini. It is just the garnish that changes the name.

2. That cork end I am talking about that has the wine on it when you pull it out of the wine bottle is called the mirror.

3. Marron in French and used a lot in French pastry means chestnut.

4. Cassis that you add to white wine or champagne to make Kir or a Royal Kir is blackcurrant flavour.

5. Angostura bitters is what you add to a Manhattan in the cocktail glass. Only a couple of drops are needed to take the sweet out and leave a drying sensation when you sip the Manhattan. It really is quite nice.

Tuesday's Answers

Okay how did you do on this morning's quiz?

1. The answer was Glayva.

2. The sugary liquid I was looking for is called a wort.

3. The lees that is left over from a fermentation of wine is used to make pomace brandy and a couple of brands I was looking for was Grappa or Marc.

4. Little rice coming from Italy is what you call risotto.

5. That cheese that goes real good with vintage port is called Stilton.

The Answers to Today's Quiz

So I think you might have gotten a few but let's go through the answers to see what you did not get right.

1. The dominant grape in Beaujolais is the Gamay grape.

2. Galliano has a vanilla flavour.

3. Cabernet Sauvignon needs a longer growing season. The grape tends to ripen a full two weeks after the Merlot does.

4. The name of the oven I was looking for was the salamander.

5. The mint julep cocktail originated in the Southern U.S. with it's base as bourbon and often sipped at the Kentucky Derby by all the aristocrats.

The Answers To This Morning's Quiz

Well how did you do on this morning's quiz? Let's see.

Tuesday Quiz Answers

Okay here are the answers. Some were easier than others or maybe they were all hard. Who knows?

1. Metaxa is the well known brandy from Greece.

2. That brandy based German bitters is called Underberg.

3. The grape that makes a good vintage port from Portugal is Touriga Nacional.

4. A pousse-amour uses an egg yolk in the middle of the layers of liqueurs. A pousse-cafe does not.

5. The cheese Sbrinz comes from Switzerland.

The Quiz Answers

Okay this wasn't too bad and I think most of you probably got a few right with maybe the last question being on the more difficult side.

The answers are;

1. Poteen is the answer I was looking for.

2. Red Eye is the correct response. Sounds like some high energy drinks took their cue from this one.

3. A Whiskey Mick is a combination of Irish Whiskey and Ginger wine.

4. The native American Indian called it Firewater.

5. Boise is essences of oak that are added to brandy in cask to enhance the aroma of oak and the tannin content. At the same time it can give the brandy an impression of maturity.

The 5 Answers to Today's Quiz

Okay here we go with the answers.

1. Polish Zubrowka is a vodka from Poland and the Zubrowka is the grass that the European bison graze upon that is infused in the vodka. Delicately aromatic and with a slight nutty flavour a long blade of this grass floats inside of each bottle.

2. Bonne chauffe meaning good heat is what the second distillation of Cognac is called. The first is called brouillis.

3. A measure of Scotch whiskey is called a dram.

4. A jersey lightening is an American term for Applejack brandy.

5 When a drink has frappe at the end it means it is poured over crushed ice like your creme de menthe frappe.

The Answers To This Mornings Quiz

Okay here we go with the answers.

1. Creme de Lima if you know your Spanish is a lime flavoured liqueur.

2. Creme Yvette is an American liqueur made in the city of brotherly love , that is Philadelphia.

3. Most of you probably thought of Chartreuse but it is not. It is a liqueur called Izarra.

4. How is your French? Chasseur translated to English is Hunter. Thus , hunter sauce.

5. Shirred eggs are baked individually in a cool oven. In other words not at a high heat.

There you have it for this week. Is your brain fried yet? Is vapour coming out of your ears?

The Answers

Okay how did you all do on this one. It was a bit tricky wasn't it? Or maybe not , who knows.

1. The proper way to serve Sambuca is in a pony glass with 3 coffee beans and lit. Don't forget to tell the guest it is lit , eh?

2. The father of bourbon whiskey is the Reverand Elijah Craig who was a Baptist Minister. He set up a still in Georgetown Bourbon County in Kentucky back in 1789 using maize as the principal grain , thus the beginning of bourbon as we know it.

3. Duxelles is made up of chopped mushrooms , onions and shallots sauteed in butter.

4. Florentine indicates that the dish has spinach in it.

5. Despite the name Dry Sack is a medium sherry.

Answers to This Morning's Quiz

Okay here we go once again with the answers to the quiz questions earlier today.

1. The main flavour component aside from a few herbs in Fior d'Alpi are the flowers that come from the region. Fior in italian means flower so literally, " flowers of the Alps."

2. Irish whiskey is the only whiskey that is triple distilled.

3. The Prairie Oyster is a hangover cure that contains both alcohol and a raw egg yolk. The recipe goes like this ,

2 Measures Brandy
1 Egg Yolk
1 teaspoon wine vinegar
1 dash Tobasco sauce
1 pinch Cayenne pepper

Then stir all the ingredients in a glass without breaking the egg yolk and drink it all down in one gulp. After you will probably lose your hangover and just be sick the rest of the day. Yecchhh!

4. Salmis is a game stew.

5. Sorrel of course is an edible green plant originating in Northern Asia and Europe. It has a slightly bitter taste but is high in magnesium , potassium , and Vitamin C. It is cooked in a similar way as spinach.

The Answers to Today's Quiz

Hi everyone and here are the answers to this morning's quiz.



1. Bagaceira is the Portugese brandy made from the pomace of crushed grapes. It's called Marc in France and Grappa in Italy. That was a tough one. You pretty well had to be Portugese to get it right.

2. The name of the pasta that is shaped like a butterfly or what I commonly refer to as bow tie is Farfalle.

3. The plant from which Tequila comes from is the Blue Agave or what it is sometimes called the argarth , maguey , or mezcal. Although there are many varieties of the plant , by law , tequila can only come from the blue agave that is grown in the state of Jalisco.

4. Strega comes from Benvenuto Naples in Italy. It is a bright yellow liqueur made from more than 70 different herbs , fruits , and bark. Strega means " witch " in Italian and they say if you share Strega with someone you will remain good friends. Hmmm..

5. Cygne in english mean swan. You know that dessert everyone loves with whip cream on the inside and drizzled chocolate all over the swan of puff pastry. Yummy!
